Eternal Struggle

One of my mother's favorite sayings is "Damned if you do. Damned if you don't!". I think many of us have been in situations where we feel there's no way out that leaves us feeling successful or better off. If the snake in this piece lets go of the herons bill, it will surely be eaten, but if it doesn't let go, it will quite likely die by being squished by the birds bill helped by its own squeezing to keep the bill closed so it doesn't get swallowed. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't!
